How cool is President Nelson!? I love seeing him like a superhero! Please ignore the weird Ai Typos!

A Quick Note from Alicia

Okay—I know this is a bit off-topic from our usual BTG deep dives into neural processing and brain types... but I didn't really have another place to share this with, so BTG blog it is!

This game? It brought all those fun family vibes rushing back, and I couldn’t not share it here. BTG is about understanding the brain and strengthening relationships—and this Conference game nails both. So if you’ve got ND kids, sensory kids, distracted teens, or just tired parents trying to make Conference meaningful again… this one’s for you.

Soooo... I have a bit of history with Fortnite. As a mother of four boys, I struggled to find ways to connect! I’d watch from the kitchen as Sean and the boys laughed and played together, totally in sync—and the idea of games just broke my brain. They’d asked me to play so many times, and I tried. Oh, I tried.

Forza Horizon, Minecraft, Rocket League, Halo—you name it, I gave it a go. But I just couldn’t get the hang of it. My controller skills? Nonexistent. My character was either staring at the sky or crashing into things. I don’t have the dexterity for soccer in real life, let alone soccer with CARS!

Sometime in 2018, Sean went on his yearly visit to his dad’s, which meant I had full control over the screens. And since he enjoyed video games too (at the time, they were a survival mechanism), I couldn’t exactly kick them out of the house for good. But… he was gone... and I seized the opportunity. I initiated a full-blown video game cleanse for two weeks!

It. Was. Glorious.

We only had one Xbox back then, so the kids were constantly fighting over it. But those two weeks? Pure peace. I was thrilled and so proud of myself. I was certain I could convince Sean of the serenity I’d discovered and finally get video games out for good.

And then... he came home with a second console.

His brother had upgraded and passed down his old one to the boys.

Yippee...

I felt so defeated. I’d been this close to living in a game-free utopia. But now? Nope. They were setting up, booting up, and—of course—begging me to play.

That was not part of the plan.

They told me there was this “new-ish” game I just had to try. They swore it was different, that I’d love it. I tried to turn them down gently (didn’t want them to feel like I was rejecting them), but eventually... I caved.

I had no idea what I was in for.

Suddenly, my character was falling out of a flying bus, landing near 99 other people whose sole mission was to eliminate me. I had three backseat drivers shouting completely different instructions—plus yelling button combos I didn’t even know existed.

But oh. my. goodness.

It was exhilarating. Exciting. Terrifying. And most of all… FUN.

I was surrounded by my boys. They were cheering me on, celebrating my loot hauls, mourning my tragic deaths—it was bonding like I’d never experienced. And you know what? I actually liked the gameplay! It wasn’t first-person (thank goodness), I felt more oriented, and the weapons were floating, glowing, and basically adorable. It felt like online laser tag. No blood, no gore, no darkness—just bright colors, silly dances, and fun landmarks.

From that moment on, I had a mission:Get good enough to beat my kids at Fortnite.

I didn’t think anyone would want to play with a mom. I figured I’d struggle to find a team willing to let me tag along. But apparently... mom gamers were rare back then. Like unicorn rare. I hit the friend cap (1,000!) fast and even started winning matches. Yes, at one point or another, I’ve beaten each of my boys. Success.

So yeah—I got a little obsessed.

Alot obsessed....

I even made Fortnite-themed cakes during my bakery days.

Which is why this crossover event? Chef’s kiss.

I love Fortnite. I love General Conference. And merging the two just feels RIGHT.

This weekend, Sean and I were brainstorming how to re-engage our boys for conference. The last one was... well, a flop. We know gamification works best for learning, but we didn’t want them to just listen for keywords—we wanted them to connect.

That’s when inspiration hit. I leaned into Fortnite. Sean started crafting an apocalyptic theme (we’re happy to share his version if anyone wants it). And just like that…

Fortnite General Conference Royale was born.

We’ve all been there: snacks everywhere, glazed-over eyes, and someone inevitably asking, “How many more talks are left?” 😅

We've had other systems in place in the past, and they served their purpose. In fact, we used to do a whole shop, and do conference cash. It worked great for several years but the last year we realized we needed some change. It turned into us buying $400 worth of treats every Conference weekend and we STILL had teenager sleeping through it.

And I know I am late to the party. I know Conference already is halfway over. But I just couldn't NOT share this with you guys, even if it's late. Someone out there is annoyed and frustrated that conference blew up in their face today and will be searching until the wee hours of the night for things to keep their kids engaged. And yes! I know from experience!

Chat GPT and I had WAY too much fun making these skins, the maps, even a few emotes, back blings, and gliders. Don't ask me if I totally used up all my chats. (I did.) Or if I wanted to throw my computer about 100 times (I did), and how I was thinking VERY unChristlike things about chatGPT when it would make things up or write gibberish on my images... BUT it was SO worth it! And I am hoping it's helpful for you too!!

You can pretty much change the rules to what works best for you and your family and adjust whatever prizes you want! My kids are motivated by screentime!

🌟 FORTNITE: GENERAL CONFERENCE ROYALE 🌟

An epic, spiritually-charged game of survival, strategy, and screen time.

This isn’t just a way to “bribe your kids to listen.” Nope—this is a full-on interactive, gospel-centered, team-based adventure where players battle through each session with their notebooks, their faith, and their focus. Whether you're a parent, youth leader, or cool aunt with a laminator, this guide is your go-to for transforming Conference into an experience your kids will actually look forward to.

👾 What Is It?

General Conference Royale is a structured, point-based game where kids and teens (ages 8+) earn rewards by completing spiritually themed tasks throughout each session of General Conference.

Think:

  • Gospel Battles

  • Scripture Shielding

  • Insight Ammo

  • Medkit Moments

  • And, yes—LOOT LLAMAS 🦙✨

Every task is designed to deepen engagement, build testimony, and make Conference fun and memorable.

👥 Who Can Play?

  • Ages 8 and up (or younger, with help and accomodations)

  • Readers, thinkers, doodlers, notetakers

  • Solo players, duos, trios, or full squads

Victory Royale requires each player to earn 120+ points per session.

🛠️ Game Setup (AKA How to Not Die in the First 10 Minutes)

Before the first talk starts:

  1. Choose your Squad – Solo, Duo, Trio, or Squad (1-4 players)

  2. Pick a Gamertag & Skin – +10 Starting Points just for playing the part

  3. Thank the Bus Driver – Because manners matter, even in the gospel battlefield

  4. Choose your Drop Zone – Pick a spiritual location and loot a chest (each printed chest holds 9 task cards)

  5. Grab your Conference Notebook – This is your ammo pouch, clue log, and ticket to winning

💼 Task Cards & Points

Each card is color-coded by rarity and earns you points based on difficulty:

Rarity

Points (HP)

5

Uncommon

8

Rare

10

Epic

Legendary

15

Mythic

20

You can do up to 9 tasks per chest, and use as many chests as needed. The storm’s coming… better get moving!

🌩️ The Storm

The storm closes in every 20–30 minutes. If your points are too low, you get knocked.

  • 20 minutes = 20 points

  • 30 minutes = 30 points

  • Full session = 120+ points

Didn’t survive? Don't panic…

🛠️ Knocked, Revived, or Rebooted?

  • Teammate can sacrifice 10 points to revive you

  • You can use a Conference Quote as a revive card (how cool is that?)

  • Game Master might allow a one-time Reboot

🎨 Skin Unlocks

Survive a session? You unlock a new skin tier!(Translation: A reward chart your kids will actually care about.)

💣 Battles, Events, & Surprises

The Game Master (you, probably) can throw in some wildcards:

  • Enemy Attack → Quick task, fail = lose 10 pts

  • Boss Battle → Hard task, win = +25 pts

  • Trivia Trap → Gospel Q&A, right = +10 pts

  • Revival Event → Everyone gets a comeback chance!

And yes, there are Loot Llamas. Standard = +25 pts. Golden = +50 pts. Award them for kindness, insight, or just staying awake in the final session.

🙌 The Real Goal?

Fun is awesome. But the real win is getting your kids to engage with the spirit, understand gospel principles, and learn to find joy in the process.

So go ahead—print those chests, grab some snacks, and prepare your squad for the most legendary General Conference ever.

Your kids won’t just survive the session... they’ll actually want to come back for the next one.
